The directors of Free Solo are ready for their next adventure. After conquering Hollywood and winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for their film on free solo climber Alex Honnold, filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi are in talks to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in a movie based on the Jonas Bonnier true crime book The Helicopter Heist for Netflix, Deadline reports.

While this will be a feature narrative film and not a documentary, like Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi’s previous work, the subject matter appears to be just as thrilling as Honnold’s climb up El Capitan. And after finding ways to film Honnold at crazy heights, the duo has plenty of experience to go airborne again for this new film, which is still untitled. Bonnier’s novel is based on the Västberga helicopter robbery that happened in Stockholm, Sweden in 2009. It was Sweden’s first-ever robbery using a helicopter, and while the men were all later arrested, the money was never recovered. The novel follows a similar story of four men who stole $6.5 million from a cash depot by commandeering a stolen helicopter. Screenwriter Steven Knight, known for his collaborations with Tom Hardy (in Taboo and Locke) and for Matthew McConaughey’s 2019 thriller Serenity, came on board to write the script after Netflix and Gyllenhaal’s production company bought the rights. While no release date is set, the film could debut on Netflix in 2021 if it starts filming in 2020. Free Solo is now streaming on Hulu after debuting on the National Geographic channel in March.
