“Every Third Thursday,” the web series that concepts and then builds the wildest DIY snowboards ever made, is back with an all new episode. Signal Snowboards’s Dave Lee was inspired by the LED screens of Times Square in New York City to build a snowboard with a programmable LED base. So that’s exactly what the crew did for this new episode. It was no easy endeavor, as they used close to 1,500 LED lights for the base of the board. Needless to say, that was a lot of soddering.
As you see in the episode, their first approach with the lights don’t quite work out — one faulty light or wire and the whole board is shot. But they give it a second try and get it dialed in. They get the LED programmable snowboard under the feet of rider Kyle Roles at Mammoth Mountain and put it through the paces. Utilizing a few different screens (note the awesomeness of Pac-Man), Roles doesn’t have much holding him back on the board. Although, the lights act like velcro to the snow causing for the board to stick more than glide at times. A clear base overtop of that next time should sure that up.
