Although the busy season is just beginning, 2018 has already set a new record for movie tickets sold in North America: Theaters sold $11.381 billion in tickets through Monday, besting the previous record of $11.378 billion set in 2016, the New York Post reports. A string of blockbuster superhero films—Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Incredibles 2—helped drive a big boost in ticket sales. All three films grossed over $600 million. Box Office Mojo estimates Aquaman is on track to haul in over $100 million in its five-day debut through Christmas.
