The biggest philanthropic event in all of standup paddling has outdone themselves again. The 9th Annual Tyler’s Dam That Cancer raised a record-breaking $800K, eclipsing last year’s record of $650K. The event, which won a 2017 SUP Award for Top Philanthropic Effort, was hosted by the Flatwater Foundation on June 25 in Austin, Texas. Its mission is to raise funds to provide access to mental health support for families and individuals affected by cancer. According to organizers, the amount raised this year will provide 11,140 hours of therapy — a powerful testament to the impact of this event. In addition to the fundraising efforts, Tyler’s Dam That Cancer features a 21-mile paddle of Lake Austin from Mansfield Dam to Tom Miller Dam (Hula Hut) on SUPs. Impressively, organizers announced that 185 paddlers completed the trip.
